Walnut End Grain Butcher Block, 3" Thick — Pros & Pitmasters
Couldn't load pickup availability
The same 3" end grain construction we build for Texas BBQ restaurants, in black walnut. Heavy enough to stay put under a whole packer brisket, and end grain so your knife stays sharp. 15x20 to 20x30, single-sided with silicone feet and textured handles or double-sided.
Why black walnut
Black walnut is rich chocolate-brown, sometimes with streaks of creamy sapwood. It has been North America's heirloom hardwood for centuries, and it grows from New England down through Texas. At 1,010 lbf on the Janka hardness scale, it is firm enough for daily chopping and easy on your knife edge.
How it's built
We glue up each 3" block from black walnut with the wood fibers standing on end. Your knife slips between the fibers instead of slicing across them, so edges stay sharp longer and cut marks close up. All that mass keeps the block planted while you slice a whole packer brisket. Every board is sanded smooth and finished with food-grade mineral oil and our Board Butter.
Options
- Sizes: 15 × 20", 18 × 24", 24 × 24", 20 × 30"
- Want a custom size? Request a custom order and we'll build it to your measurements
- Single-sided: silicone feet and textured handles, so it stays put and lifts easily
- Double-sided: finger grooves on the sides, and both faces are usable
- Juice groove: optional, to catch juices from brisket and roasts
- Made to order in our Pflugerville, Texas shop: ships in 3–5 weeks
Care
Hand wash with soap and warm water, dry both sides, and let it stand on its side or feet to air dry. Never soak it or run it through the dishwasher. Keep it hydrated with our Board Butter so moisture stays out and knives don't dig into dry grain.
