Like all wood, there are small cracks, checks and other defects that for the most part are identified before assembly, however this one was so thin and small I didn't catch it until after finishing. Shouldn't be any sort of issue, may need special attention when cleaning to make sure food isn't wedging in but I'm confident you will still get plenty of use out of this.
